Spending a day in a zoo has ever been an
educating activity and if not, fun is there always. There is no shred of doubt
that zoos’ efforts in serving educational and recreational purposes are quite
admirable. Despite that, some individuals believe that they should be shut down
due to non-negotiable cruelty to the animals. Some are also against it; say
still they are useful to protect rare animals. This essay intends to
analyse both perspectives. I
personally with the former view.
On the one hand, to bolster the
first view several reasons can be presented as follows. To commence with, often
beasts from birth are kept in a small fenced area where they're not allowed to
move out. The food serves as a ready-made meal and no worries of prey to fight
hunger. Due to this service wild animals who are meant to be skilled hunters
lose their instinct to do so. For example, a National geographic has
broadcasted one case study of an eagle kept in captivity from the early age of
life. The male bird was rescued from the forest with a damaged leg and treated
well. At a young age, he was allowed to get his freedom back, but he had forgotten
to fly. In addition to these, many zoos are not well funded, and they are not
able to manage a proper diet for all of them. As a result, they had to survive
from deficiencies or might die from starvation.
On the contrary, there are a plethora
of reasons, why some denizens are on to save zoos. To embark with, the vivarium
is the place who allegedly responsible for taking care of species that are on
the verge of extinction. Most of them have achieved that. Furthermore, they
provide information about domestic and wild creatures that might be not
appealing to explore on own side. The best thing about that is at a very
reasonable price and comfort with security. Hence, it is also a fun task to go
there and learn.
To sum up and offer my position, I
would state that zoos had served a vital role in protecting endangered species
from predators. Despite that, there should be more open areas to keep animals
safe like wildlife parks. These animals are not only allowed to move freely there
but also stay in their very home - nature.
